Using Hyperlinks

Hyperlinks are the simplest way to link to another website page or a document.

Creating a hyperlink within text:

  1. Copy the URL of the document or page you want to link to. If you want to link to a document in your library, you will have to copy the URL from the library. If you want to link to a web page, you will need to copy the page’s URL from the browser bar.

  2. Open the text editor where you want to add the hyperlink.

  3. Type and then highlight the text where you want to add the hyperlink.

  4. Click on the hyperlink button

  5. Paste the URL

  6. Click the green tick or hit the return key

  7. Click 'update'

You can add them directly into a plain text widget by highlighting a word or phrase and clicking the link icon.

Best for:

  • Linking to external websites
  • One-off links that won’t change often
  • News items or short updates
  • Directing people to a specific section of your site

Advantages:

  • Very easy to add and edit
  • Works well inside paragraphs or bullet points
  • Good for quick, simple links
  • When you copy and paste the hyperlink is normally kept, so it is easy to move links around.
