Archaeological Dig at Christ Kirk on the Green
Christ Kirk on the Green has been a focal point for Leslie folk for centuries. It was the site of the church, markets and fairs, homes during the war, the gallows for hangings ... the list is endless.
Leslie Heritage Group have secured funding from The Skene Trust and the Common Good Fund to investigate this area with an archaeological dig! This is a hugely exciting project for the whole community. Who knows what will be unearthed, possibly even the remains of the 10th century wooden kirk thought to have stood on this very spot.
Working alongside a team of archeaologists, we are looking for enthusiastic local volunteers to get involved.
Do you have some time to spare? We are currently finalising dates, but we are looking for up to 10 people every day to help with the excavation (Wednesday to Sundays only). You would need to be suitably dressed (old clothes, waterproof shoes/boots) but equipment would be provided.
What might you find in the dig? There is the potential to uncover some really exciting medieval archaeology, as well as learning new skills and meeting new people.
Our professional Archaeologists will guide you through the process, showing you how to excavate and record, as well as teaching you about the exciting local history!!
If you, or you know of someone, would be interested in taking part please check back here over coming weeks for further details of how to apply
