... getting your community group online

Over 160 community groups in Fife have already set up their websites with Digital Fife. With each website comes a "domain" (e.g. www.communitymums.org.uk) that can be used on letters, leaflets and posters to help people find your website easily.

Community groups use their websites to spread their message, keep in touch with their members, attract new members, run surveys and quizzes and publish documents, slide shows and videos.

Some examples

Community Mums is an organisation of parents supporting new parents.  They use their website publicise events, attract new members, deliver useful resources and record visits and events.

The Billy Liddell Memorial Group celebrates the life and achievements of a famous Scottish international footballer who was born in Dunfermline.  The website allows the Group to connect to people around the world.

Diabetes Fife is the local branch of the national charity Diabetes UK and organises meetings and events, provides support to people with Diabetes and their families.  The website keeps members up-to-date and allows anyone to get information and advice.

Kennoway Area Tenants and Residents Association uses their website to campaign as well as keep members and residents in touch with meetings, agendas, minutes and so on.

How it works

Digital Fife websites use WebSpringer - special software that allows you to design, build and manage your own website without needing any special skills or tools.

The WebSpringer software runs on the Digital Fife server.  This is a computer connected directly to the internet that stores all your pages, pictures, videos, downloads and other information.

All you need to do is log in to your website with your password and turn on editing.  The rest is very easy as you click on yellow tags to add, change or delete your content.

Getting started

Use the contact page to get in touch with Sheena Watson. She will first determine whether your group is eligible for a free website (commercial, political and some other groups are not).

You will then be issued with a password and invited to run the start-up wizard.  You can also watch training videos, download free software and join training courses.  As soon as you are ready Sheena will provide with a domain name of your choice and your website can go live!
