... making websites usable by everyone

At the top of each page is an "accessibility toolbar" that allows users to do the following:

  • Change to a different colour scheme, including reversing the colours - some people will find this easier to read
  • Make the text larger or smaller
  • Change to a different font - again some people find different fonts easier to read
  • Convert the page to "text-only" mode - this can be helpful if you are using a software "screen reader" though the leading screen readers also work well with the screen in normal text mode
  • Get the contents of the page spoken to you through the computer loudspeaker or headphones
  • Print a copy of the page as a PDF file without the menus and toolbars
  • Translate the page into a different language.

There is also a automatic translator, which you can try out on this page as well as professional translations of the home page into five community languages and a video introduction to Digital Fife in BSL.

Finally there is an online learning module on "writing for the web" that will show you how to make your site content easy to follow and understand.
